NEW: A Designer’s Digs In Irvington

2331 NE Knott St – Portland OR 97212 | $995,000 |

A total architectural stunner with impeccable style and a generous helping of historic charm right smack in the heart of Irvington. This home occupies a central corner in this picturesque historic neighborhood, but step inside and you will find great privacy both indoors and in it’s exterior living space.  A designer’s digs – this home feels like it has been ripped out of the pages of a magazine. A dramatic renovation launched this home into a new era while at the same time honoring it’s historic past. The brilliant design illustrates that it’s possible to achieve a “now” residence while retaining the feel of the era by blending original period details with sophisticated modern luxuries – all with smashing success.

From the moment you step into the entry you know you’ve arrived into something special. Warm Craftsman details and hardwood floors welcome you while the lavish wall treatments peek your curiosity to explore further.

The main living space unfolds to a light filled living room with built-in sitting benches and a cozy fireplace, a dining room with original natural woodwork, built-ins and dramatic designer wall treatment. Walk through the swinging door and an oversized, well-appointed eat-in kitchen awaits complete with island, marble counters, distinctive lighting, cabinets and hardware. A half bath with original accents completes the main level.

Head upstairs and you will find essentials such as: a true master suite with a suave bathroom complete with tile shower, marble counters, tile floors and a Juliette balcony. A large landing area leads to three additional bedrooms, one with a wood fireplace, and a full bath with claw foot tub. The third floor living space offers a large bonus room, storage closets, a guest bedroom and a full bath.

A full, unfinished basement has the potential for additional finished living space. The exterior grounds are fully fenced with two side yards featuring a paver patio with a water feature and covered outdoor living space.

No expense spared and truly a delight to tour.

An Eco-Inspiration For The Modern Dweller

The History

This home was once a 1910 Bungalow that was deconstructed piece by piece, reclaimed and transformed this corner lot into an eco-conscious home for today’s lifestyle. A perfect blend of reclaimed and new materials combined to create sustainable living in this one of a kind modern home.

Features of this home

From the moment you walk into this home you know this is something special. Huge energy efficient windows glazed with additional protective coating let the sunlight in while the white walls create a feeling of pure airiness. On the main level the old Doug Fir floors were re-installed and refinished.

There is an open gourmet kitchen fit for a home chef with a Wolf range, 1200 BTU hood and Asco dishwasher The eat-at-bar is 100 year old reclaimed wood. The concrete countertops and metal cabinets introduce an hint of industrial sturdiness which is all tied together cohesively by exposed heating ducts throughout the house.

Walk up the stairs and you’ll find yourself in the “happy space” – a vaulted light and bright bonus space where light floods in and the Raise fireplace envelops you in warmth. The wood floors are reclaimed from an old racquetball court downtown and the black doors were retrofitted from the old bungalow to be reused.

Many custom built-ins have been added throughout the house – some stark and modern with lacquered finishes and some carefully chosen repurposed materials such as the barn doors for the kitchen pantry and reclaimed shelves.

The basement is partially finished with a rubber floor made from recycled tires, a laundry area and loads of storage space.

Thought was given to the design of this house for versatile and easy living – from the separation of the four bedrooms and three baths layout to the communal spaces that bring everyone together to the transition of spaces from indoor to outdoor living.

Exterior, Garden and Work Space

A zen like private garden is anchored by a 100 year old shade tree and dotted with native plants & shrubs, raised beds, herb garden, blueberries, fig and apple trees. Poured concrete and Cumara EPA FSC wood deck make this low maintenance space great for entertaining or relaxing after a long day. On the northeast corner of the property sits a “creative inspiration space” – a ten foot by 10 foot studio with large full light glass door and electricity.
