Rothko – At The Portland Art Museum

“A picture lives by companionship, expanding and quickening in the eyes of the sensitive observer.”
             ~ Mark Rothko, 1947
He was an American artist that was a critical part of the revolutionizing abstract art. In his lifetime (1903-1970) he created some of the most recognized abstract paintings which are scattered throughout the world’s art museums and private collections. He immigrated from Russia to Portland and graduated from Lincoln High School, class of 1921, before moving to New York city. Forty-five of Rothko’s works will be on display at the Portland Art Museum now through May 27th, 2012. Don’t miss this great opportunity to see some of his works up-close.

January 2012 Residential Highlights

“The year has started off on a positive note. Sales activity in the Portland metro area continued to show improvement in closed and pending sales when comparing this January to the same month a year ago. Closed sales experienced a 18.3% increase, posting the highest numbers for January since 2007. Pending sales saw growth of 22.4% in the same comparison. Market time also improved, decreasing from 160 to 136 days. There were 16.5% fewer newly listed residential properties. The combination of higher sales and fewer new listings helped to create a much lower listing inventory for this season than seen in the previous two years. At January’s rate of sales, the active listing count of 8,514 would be exhausted in only 7.0 months.” [RMLS Market Action Report – Click here for full report]

We love all homes, after all that’s what we – do but we’re not going to lie. We have a special love for modern homes. And what’s there not to love? They could be: a breath of fresh air in an old historic neighborhood, a great example of simplicity with clean lines and sleek finishes, a feeling of calmness evoked by the zen like gardens and outdoor spaces. We’ve been fortunate to represent our clients in transactions involving amazing modern homes, so in honor of Valentine’s day, for inspiration (or motivation) we thought we’d share some of our favorites homes we’ve represented recently.

If modern is your taste our team can help you scout for the perfect house or help you visualize how an ordinary house can be transformed into the modern home of your dreams. Contact us at 503.497.5328 to find out more.

We’re proud to have facilitated the sale of this one-of-a-kind home in the Alberta Arts District. This “green” home has solar panels, extensive use of reclaimed materials, denim insulation and more… The 3,600 SF home with expansive gardens and oversized lot provides all the amenities and conveniences of an urban cocoon that feels miles away from the urban nexus of this bustling community. This home was featured in films and magazines, including Dwell. The sales price was far above the neighborhood average and at $60 per square foot higher than then the average in the last twelve months – proves that good modern design can thrive in any neighborhood.
